January 2021 was a haze of drawing and animation, as one would expect with looming deadlines that culminated in what became the winner of The Drum Awards for PR 2021 🥇. I worked with Don’t Cry Wolf via my guy Simon Ross in the direction of this one, creating the first super-detailed storyboards in the festive season of 2020 (I was in Florida at the time too, with my wonky Mac and even wonkier Bamboo tablet).
The number in the story art frames I did was more than usual to make it fit so Simon could create a functioning animatic in conjunction with providing clients with storyboards. From there, I was able to use the precise animatic edits to form the animation.
I designed all the 2D elements and knocked out about 90 percent of the animation via After Effects. The results turned out better than expected. The project was based on an already existing children’s book series empowering diverse kids, so much of the art style thus took inspiration from it.,
But aside from that, I was able to teach a few people about black hair and Shrinkage when the team initially thought her afro was too big. I am forever a humble servant.
