October 25 was the due date! And with it came the Misan Harriman-directed film The After landed on Netflix, storyboarded by yours truly. And emotive narrative has been receiving quite the humbling feedback all over.
It was a great experience to be a part of this project as a storyboard artist, connecting with Misan and producer Nicky Bentham of Neon Films back in 2022. Quite enjoyed fleshing out the action of what has to be the rawest, action, and emotive-packed sequence in the film.
And for The After to be the first outing for Misan as a film director is a triumph in itself. Misan’s eye for detail and building tension is deftness personified. David Oyelowo stars, and brings a true masterclass in acting in this.
And furthermore, it looks like the film’s garnered some notoriety outside its prolific film festival run and its premiere on Netflix. The After has been predicted to be nominated in the Oscars for Best Live-Action Short in Variety!: https://variety.com/lists/2024-oscar-predictions/live-action-short-3/
This project I remember came at a time when I was yearning for true creativity, having been stuck in a soulless job. The universe answers all questions, I guess. Glad I took my lunch break and billable hours to help render this one.
